Interlibrary Loans

Policy Statement:
The Sgt. Fernando de la Rosa Memorial Library borrows and lends library material through Interlibrary Loan, thus enhancing and extending the resources available to its users. Because the Library cannot purchase or subscribe to every useful resource, Interlibrary Loan is an essential part of its mission to meet the community’s information needs

To Make an Interlibrary Loan Request:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides access for library patrons to books not currently available at this library, and provides books from our collection to all eligible requesting libraries. Interlibrary Loan will not obtain books for people with outstanding obligations to the library such as overdue fines, lost book fees, or overdue material.

Making a Request:
When filling out the Interlibrary Loan Request form, you must fill out all of the information completely and legibly. All requests are processed as quickly as possible. All orders are dependent on the lending library’s manpower and policies.

Formats:
The only material borrowed from or lent to other libraries is books—no audiovisual materials. Bestsellers and current releases will not be lent or requested from other libraries.

Number of Items:
Patrons are limited to 2 ILL requests per checkout period.

o Pick Up and Return of Material:
ILL material must be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Books borrowed through Interlibrary Loan should be returned to the Circulation Desk or the book drop box.

Renewals:
A patron can renew an Interlibrary Loan book/s as long as the owning library grants permission.

Fees For Books:
Overdue charges apply to ILL books. The charges for lost ILL books and the processing fee are up to the lending institution’s discretion. Lost ILL books must be paid with a Money Order; no cash, Debit Card, Credit Card, or Check will be accepted.

Proctor Exams

The Sgt. Fernando de la Rosa Memorial Library is very pleased to support people in their education efforts, whether to complete their college degrees or to advance their careers. Proctoring services are available at the Sgt. Fernando de la Rosa Memorial Library free of charge to distance learning students.

What we can do:
• Provide supervision and a place to take exams.
• Be available during regular business hours (exams must be completed 30 minutes before closing).
• Check valid student picture ID before taking exam (State issued Driver’s License or Identification Card or University Picture ID).
• Sign appropriate paperwork.
• Distribute exams received in hard copy.
• Print exams that have been emailed.
• Return pre-stamped and addressed envelopes to the University.

What we cannot do:
• Provide postage or supplies.
• Provide postage services outside regular library ground mail services (Federal Express, USPS Express Mail, UPS, etc.).
• Help students find answers to test questions.
• Contact students to make test arrangements.
• Provide proctor’s personal information, such as Social Security number.
• Be responsible for mailed, faxed, or emailed exams the college or institution does not receive.

Test taker’s responsibility for proctoring:
• Fill out the necessary paperwork required by the institution using the proctor’s contact information.
• Call or email the proctor to determine if the exam has been received.
• Call or email the proctor to set a time to take the examination. This should be done 3 business days before testing. Staff schedules are not altered to accommodate proctored exams. Library staff does not proctor exams “on demand.” Proctoring is based on the individual staff availability.
• Staff will not proctor a test if a test taker walks in without making an appointment or checking to see if the test has arrived.

All proctored exams will be administered on public library computers in public areas. Students cannot use personal laptops, and the library will not issue laptops for exams.

Distance learners can arrange for test proctoring by contacting Joe Tamez at (956) 787-6160 or jtamez@alamotexas.org
