Opening a Business in Alamo

New Business (New Building)

  1.  Submit Building permit application with:
  2.  A full set of building plans to include a foundation, floor, roof, elevations, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural, and a site plan with landscaping/lighting details,  a Fire (Sprinkler) plan may also be required.
  3.  A Com-Check (2012),
  4.  A Windstorm design,
  5.  Manual J,
  6.  Registered Accessibility Specialist review certificate,

Staff will then review the submittal and release the permit once all items have been approved by Staff. Once building and all site work is completed, a final inspection and a certificate of occupancy must be acquired. When the building has been approved for occupancy, a business license is required which includes a need for a fire inspection. In order to obtain a business license, the owner/renter must come into the Planning office with the correct address, owner of building, square footage of the building, tax ID from the State Comptroller and ESI# from AEP if the building is connected to electricity. Once inspections have been completed and passed, a business license is issued and the business may commence operations.

New Business (Existing Building)

A business license is required which includes a need for a fire inspection. In order to obtain a business license, the owner/renter must come into the Planning office with the correct address, owner of building, square footage of the building, tax ID from the State Comptroller and ESI# from AEP if the building is connected to electricity. If there are any items that need to be completed by the owner/renter, those items must be completed prior to obtaining a business license, i.e. no business license will be release if there is a need for additional parking, landscaping, building repairs/upgrades, lighting, fire sprinklers etc. Once inspections have been completed and passed, a business license is issued and the business may commence operations.
